On Saturday, August 18th 2018, the streets of Smiths Falls were awash in the colours of the rainbow as the community came together to celebrate their first Pride Parade. The folks in the parade were fabulous – costumes, music and floats filled the streets – with local organizations, churches and businesses all expressing their support for diversity.
Lanark County Interval House showed up with some of our besties and shared a float with United Way Lanark County, HIV/AIDS Regional Services and Queer Connection Lanark.
Here are a few of our favourite photos from the day:
And of course, Tweed did not disappoint, bringing almost 100 people to march, decked out in Tweed shirts with “Worn with pride” across the front.
And what’s a pride parade without a party? The community hosted a HUGE potluck with close to 300 people coming by for good food, some rocking music and of course, rainbow cake served by the mayor himself, Shawn Pankow.
Every person there, whether they walked in the parade or cheered from the sidewalk, proved that the ever-evolving town of Smiths Falls is very much in support of an inclusive and diverse community.
