Lanark County Interval House is grieving the passing of one of our founding members, Pat Jeeves, who passed away on August 5, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Pat was passionate about the rights of women and held many roles here, from volunteer in our thrift shop to sitting on the Board of Directors, onto the position of Executive Director and finally as Manager of our major shelter renovation.
Always dedicated to her strong feminist principles and with deep respect for the needs of women experiencing violence in our community, Pat was an advocate and change-maker at a time when being a feminist was still a grass-roots activity. She saw the barriers faced by so many women and recognized the cycle of violence that perpetuates when advocacy and support are not available.
In her role as Executive Director, Pat was instrumental in securing funding for a 3.2 million dollar renovation project that transformed our shelter, giving women access to privacy and comfort at a time when their lives are filled with strife and struggle.
“Pat was a powerful example of what it means to be an advocate for women’s rights and her work will live on in the services we provide women in Lanark County,” Erin Lee, Executive Director.
Even though her time at LCIH ended many years ago, every woman who walks through our doors seeking safety in our shelter becomes a part of Pat’s legacy.
Pat’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday August 24th from 2-4 pm at the Carleton Place Canoe Club.
