We are so excited to be able to offer a couple of ways for youth in our community to get involved with LCIHCS, connect with peers and have their voices heard!
If you are or know someone who loves social media, is passionate about social justice, is opinionated or who would like to make a difference in the community, we want to hear from you! Check out these awesome opportunities we have for you:
50 for 50
Youth 12-21, Paid Opportunity – Not Eligible for Volunteer Hours
This opportunity is awesome for someone who LOVES social media and has dreamt of being an influencer – getting paid to make TikToks? The dream!
Living through a global pandemic has been hard. Everyone has struggled with staying connected, staying positive and taking care of our mental health. We want to hear your thoughts, opinions & experiences on one of these topics:
- Staying connected when we cannot be together face to face
- Self Care: What can/do you do to keep your spirits up during this difficult time
- Beyond COVID: What are you looking forward to the most when things get “back to normal”
- What milestone or major event have you missed celebrating or participating in? Were you able to celebrate virtually? (This can be anything like grad, prom, football, hockey, living in residence)
We want you to cover one of those topics in either a TikTok, YouTube Video or something that can be shared on Instagram (photo series, art work, poem, etc.). We will be giving the first 50 submissions a $50 visa gift card.
Submissions must be sent to emma.kinsman@lcih.com by March 19 and must be sent in an email with your full name, school, grade, age and home address if you would like to receive a gift card. Submissions can be posted anonymously by request.
By submitting media, creators give Lanark County Interval House and Community Support permission to share those submissions freely on the website, social media, print media or promotional material. Any submissions received which may be cause for safety concerns may be followed up on. If you or someone you know is not safe, reach out to our 24hr crisis line 1-800-267-7946, or kids help phone www.kidshelpphone.ca, 1-800-668-6868 or connect.
Inclusive Voices
Youth up to age 30, Paid Opportunity OR Eligible for Volunteer Hours
This opportunity is great for someone who has experience or thoughts on mental health, ableism, transitioning or with transphobia, being a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community and homophobia, and/or gender based violence.
Inclusive Voices is a Community video series which aims to amplify young voices and empower young leaders to dispel hate in our community. The series aims to encourage conversation, while ultimately making room for diversity and inclusion in Lanark County, The goal of Inclusive Voices is to give marginalized youth the chance to speak up about issues important to them to help educate other members of the community. Far too often these voices are silenced, so we’re looking to promote them as much as we can. As far as how our mandate has been received, it’s been received quite well! We’ve gotten some great engagement and are looking forward to our future videos.
To see what Inclusive Voices is all about, check out our YouTube Channel or listen in on this interview.
Participants in Inclusive Voices will be sent a series of questions created by Julia, our youth coordinator for the project. You will record a video of yourself (in landscape with your back camera please!) answering the questions to be used in our compilation video on the topic. Participants may remain anonymous by submitting a voice recording or submitting your answers for someone to read on your behalf.
To get involved, sign up here or email inclusive.voices2020@gmail.com.
For more information on either of these projects or to get involved, feel free to contact emma.kinsman@lcih.com.
