Child and Youth Community Program Coordinator
Permanent Full Time 35.0 Hours/Week – may include evenings and weekends.
Lanark County Interval House and Community Support is a shelter and support network for women and children
who are navigating, fleeing, or dealing with abuse or violence.
As the Child and Youth Community Program Coordinator, you will play a vital role in providing direct services to mothers, children, and youth who have been exposed to domestic violence. This position involves working closely with clients, advocacy, referrals, conducting individual counseling sessions and facilitating support groups. You will work cooperatively and effectively within the structure and policy framework of LCIHCS in consultation with the Community Support Team. The coordinator also collaborates with various agencies, maintains detailed records, and participates in meetings to ensure comprehensive support for families in
need.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Administration
• Coordinate and work collaboratively with all other agency programs
• Ensure efficient program scheduling, delivery, and adhere to the specified funding and regulatory guidelines, maintaining program integrity and accountability.
• Play a crucial role in program development, implementation and adaptation, as demonstrated in the annual workplan.
• Collaborate with other team members and agencies to ensure programs align with current needs and funding guidelines.
• Participate in team and agency meetings and committees as required and best suited.
• Foster strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on child and youth related services.
• Attend meetings, representing the agency’s programs and advocating for clients’ needs.
• Participate in relevant training and educational opportunities to stay updated on best practices and the latest research in supporting survivors.
• Perform other duties and complete other tasks and activities as requested by the Program and Services Director.
• Student Supervision where appropriate.
Direct Service Provision
• Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, information and referrals to women and children witnessing violence via off-site, community based or non-residential services.
• Conduct intake sessions with clients (mothers and children) to assess needs and establish service plans using a client centered, trauma informed, harm reduction approach.
• Provide community based individual and group supportive counselling, advocacy, accompaniment and information to children and youth aged 4 to 18 who have witnessed domestic violence.
• Support mothers with parenting strategies, referrals, and on-going support.
• Facilitate and lead support groups for children and youth, covering various topics related to their experience of witnessing violence.
• Offer referrals to external agencies and services when necessary to meet clients’ unique needs.
• Collaborate with schools in Lanark County to facilitate programs and support children and youth.
• Embrace a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach in all interactions and services.
• Partner and work collaboratively with the children’s program in the residential shelter.
• Collaborate with community services to develop comprehensive plans for families facing complex challenges.
Documentation and Reporting
• Complete and maintain accurate and confidential client records, progress notes, group sessions, and
program-related data as directed for use by the organization.
• Ensure accurate documentation of all direct and non-direct service time.
• Provide timely reports to agency leadership, demonstrating program effectiveness and outcomes.
• Provide regular updates to supervisors and team members regarding client progress and challenges  participating in supervision as required.
• Complete and deliver annual reporting as required (for example, annual report, board report, annual workplan).
• Complete all paperwork, forms and records relating to applicable personnel systems and procedures in a timely and efficient manner including but not limited to, timesheets, requests for time off, mileage and expense claims and personal supervision notes and records
POSITION RELATED QUALIFICATIONS (TECHNICAL, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE)
• A Bachelor’s or College Diploma in social work, psychology, counselling, or relevant experience.
• 3+ years of experience working with children, youth, and families in a counselling or support capacity.
• Knowledge of harm-reduction and trauma-informed care and familiarity with the dynamics of domestic abuse.
• Adapt to changing client needs and program requirements and being open to diverse perspectives and practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, which contribute to a positive, cooperative, and respectful work environment.
• Empathetic, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Excellent time management and organization skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability to manage various tasks and situations.
• Knowledge of rural social service issues an asset.
