SUMMARY:Lessons from a Rural Inquest Webinar
DESCRIPTION:On September 22\, 2015\, Carol Culleton\, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam were murdered in a triple femicide in rural eastern Ontario. In June 2022\, a coroner’s inquest examined the circumstances of the deaths to consider how future such deaths could be prevented. The jury produced 86 recommendations for system changes for possible implementation by the provincial government and other public bodies.Through the lens of the panelists – all of whom played key roles in the inquest – this special online event will explore some of the key moments in the proceedings\, with a focus on the recommendations and what all of us can do to advocate for their implementation.Learning ObjectivesParticipants will come away with: \n\nAn overview of the facts of the case that led to the inquest\nAn understanding of the purpose of coroner’s inquests\nDetails about the key recommendations made by the jury\nInformation about ongoing advocacy to support implementation of the recommendations\nTips for effective advocacy to support implementation\nAccess to a toolkit to support advocacy initiatives\n\nWe are pleased to offer this special event in English and French\, with American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation. An event recording will be made available after the event. DESCRIPTION:16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence\n\nThe 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November\, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women\, and runs until 10 December\, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
