Bring your A-Game for On-Hole contests & games! \nWeather concerns \nThis is a rain or shine event. \nThunderstorms and Lightning Strikes \nThe Mississippi Golf Club does not have or utilize any safety systems to detect or predict inclement weather. Golfers play at their own risk and are therefore responsible for determining when they should get off the golf course if thunderstorms are in the area. \nThe following information has been provided by the Meteorological Service of Canada. \nThe Canadian Lightning Detection Network (CLDN) was installed about 20 years ago. Before CLDN\, it was believed that lightning strikes tended to be grouped or organized and that the next cloud-to-ground strike was expected to be quite close to the previous one. \nSince the CLDN became operational\, they’ve learned differently. Lightning can strike more than 16 kilometers away from a storm. That includes ahead of or behind a lightning storm\, so even if it’s not raining you can be struck. \nNot sheltering under a tree is paramount. Go to a safe location: either a building with plumbing and wiring or an all-metal vehicle. \nOur rain shelters offer NO protection against lightning. \nWe recommend that you follow the excellent advice from the National Lightning Safety Institute: “If you can see it (lightning)\, flee it; if you can hear it (thunder)\, clear it.” \nWhile you are glancing at the radar imagery on your cell phone\, remember that the weather doesn’t have to be upon you before it could become a serious hazard. \nLooking for a reliable website for your cell phone? Try looking up the Canadian Lightning Danger Map on the Internet and bookmarking an icon to your mobile. Also you may wish to download the WeatherCAN weather app. \nCancellations \nLCIH is required to submit the final golfing number no later than May 22\, 2024. Should you need to cancel\, it is your responsibility to secure a replacement. If there is a waiting list for LCIH access\, we will do our best to fill your spot. Please note that fees will not be refunded in case of cancellation. \nAbout the Club\nMississippi Golf Club is an 18-hole\, semi-private golf course located on 190 acres overlooking the picturesque Mississippi River. Established in 1915 on the former Patterson Farm in Appleton\, just five kilometres east of Carleton Place\, Mississippi Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in Ontario. \nMississippi began as a nine-hole course\, with a second nine – designed by the renowned golf course architect Graham Cooke – added in 1987. A new Pro Shop was constructed in 1992 to serve a growing membership. The original stone club house was destroyed by fire in the fall of 1997\, and replaced with a modern new building that opened the following spring. \nMississippi is an enjoyable course to walk\, friendly to novice golfers while at the same time presenting a surprising challenge to experienced players. We welcome green fee guests and invite you to experience our outstanding course and clubhouse facilities. Pay us a visit and find out why Mississippi Golf Club has been called a “Hidden Gem” in the Ottawa Valley! www.themississippi.ca

SUMMARY:Understanding Human Trafficking with Jo-Joe Van Hooser
DESCRIPTION:Stir It Up Collective and the Hub will be sponsoring a presentation by Jo-Joe Van Hooser\, Equity Diversion/Inclusion/Indigenization Worker with the Ottawa Childrens’ Aid Society. The presentation will outline some of the things that the public need to know about human trafficking in urban and rural communities – what people can do to protect themselves. What are the signs that grooming is taking place in our communities? What should children and young people be learning about this issue from grade school all the way to college or university? How and what should we discuss with our children so that they can be aware of the warning signs that human trafficking might be taking place? How can our communities unite to protect themselves from this danger? \nJo-Joe is a Kanehsata:ke-Onkwehonwe-Mohawk grandmother from the Bay of Quinte Mohawks-Tyendinaga Territory\, Turtle Clan\, with over thirty years of experience working with Indigenous youth and families in the areas of child welfare\, gangs\, sex trafficking and other forms of criminal activity\, as well as Missing and Murdered Indigenous people.

SUMMARY:Take Back the Night!
DESCRIPTION:Meet us at Town Hall Square Park behind Carleton Place Town Hall. We will convene at 5:30 p.m. with the march beginning at 6 p.m. \nFor over 10 years\, Carleton Place has been host to one of the most well-attended rural Take Back the Night Marches in Canada. Even on the soggiest of nights\, local residents turn out with their banners and noise-makers in record numbers. All to demand that a woman’s right to walk our streets safely be upheld. \nTake Back the Night is about women’s right to be free of violence and to walk without fear. \nFrom the Take Back the Night Foundation website: \nHistory:  Take Back The Night is the earliest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence\, especially violence against women.  TBTN Events began in the 1960’s in Belgium and England with protests about how women were not able to be safe walking down the street alone.  In 1973\, in the United States\, a group of women at the University of Southern Florida dressed in black sheets holding broomsticks and marched through campus demanding a women’s center.  In 1975\, a crowd in Philadelphia held a Take Back The Night Event to protest the murder of a microbiologist walking near her home after work.  In the 70’s San Francisco had a number of rallies in protest “snuff” pornography and violence against women.  These early events have grown into hundreds of events on college campuses and in communities of all sizes and locations.  The unifying theme of these events is to bring awareness to sexual violence and provide support for victims. \nFoundation:  In 2001\, Katie Koestner\, the first woman in the US to speak out nationally and publicly about being the victim of campus “date” rape\, reached out to event organizers and participants in the US and globally about uniting our efforts and sharing our history.  We wanted to bring the passion\, energy and support of Take Back The Night to more communities.  In establishing the Take Back The Night Foundation\, the ability to share our collective history and support each other in our cause became possible.  Today our Board Members and thousands of supporters work tirelessly to provide resources\, funding\, and healing to as many communities as possible. \nMission:  Our Mission as a charitable 501(c)3 Foundation is to end sexual assault\, domestic violence\, dating violence\, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence.  We serve to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives. People of all backgrounds around the world are taking back their voices by speaking out against these crimes and taking a stand through Take Back The Night.  Sexual violence\, harassment\, abuse\, stalking\, and trafficking continue in epidemic proportions.  We have made great strides\, but our march is far from over. \nToday:  Take Back The Night Events have been documented in over 36 countries\, in over 800 communities\, with more locations taking a stand every year.  We have reached over 30 million people with our message of strength and support\, and our commitment to ending sexual violence.
